My Story

DR. RUBY GIBSON
A mixed blood woman of Native and Mediterranean descent, Dr. Ruby Gibson lives on both the Flathead Reservation in MT, and in Rapid City, SD near Pine Ridge Agency. For 35+ years, Dr. Gibson has been dedicated to the craft and science of Historical Trauma reconciliation, cultural healing, and wellness among Native and Indigenous Peoples all around Turtle Island, and abroad in Europe and Australia. She developed two intergenerational trauma recovery models – Somatic Archaeology© and Generational Brainspotting™. Dr. Gibson is the author of, My Body, My Earth, The Practice of Somatic Archaeology, which is available in English, Spanish and Romanian. Its companion, My Body, My Breath™ Card Deck, A Tool for Transformation designed by Ola Faye Thompson, is a beautiful artistic deck of 30 cards to enhance the application of Somatic Archaeology©. Using our Body and Mother Earth as benevolent sources of biological, emotional and ancestral memory, her techniques were field tested for 30 years on clients and students, and researched in her Doctoral studies with amazing effectiveness. Dr. Ruby’s recovery principles are shared at professional conferences, universities, hospitals, tribal consultations, ceremonies, veteran gatherings, detention facilities, youth groups, and K-12 schools. As the Executive Director of Freedom Lodge non-profit, Dr. Gibson’s renowned training, the Historical Trauma Master Class©, has assisted hundreds of Indigenous people to recovery from the generational suffering of ethnocide. She is honored to witness the amazing capacity that each person has to reconcile suffering. As the mother of 3 healthy children, and one granddaughter, Dr. Ruby has a heart full of hope for the next seven generations.
